What Causes Pain Under Rib Cage Radiating To Back?

I ve been having pain under right rib cage/toward center that also radiates toward my back. It has been worse at night and lasts 3-4 hours. Anti-acids do not seem to help. It is a moderate sharp to dull pain that is constant during the duration. I believe when I ve had it during the day it may have been brought on by fattier foods. I am a 44 year old female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

You have good observation skills and the location of the pain and the added fact that it may be triggered by the consumption of fatty food points towards the possibility of a gall bladder abnormality. I would recommend a check on your gall bladder with the help of an ultrasound examination and your serum amylase and serum lipase.

Best wishes.
