What Causes Pain Radiating From The Neck To The Skull Behind The Ear?

Recently diagnosed with cervical adenitis after prolonged ear infection. Third round of antibiotics reducing swelling in neck lymph nodes but I am still have severe pains radiating from neck to top of skull behind the ear without relief. Could something else be causing pains besides the adenitis?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is very likely that in case your lymph nodes have become large, they may be affecting a nerve running around the area. The pressure on the area by the lymph node may be leading to the pain. A ultrasound of the area by an experienced sonologist may help. A nerve conduction study by a neurologist may be an alternative (if feasible in the area). Alternatively, this could be an associated cervical spondilysis. In this situation you will need to test at least an X ray of the cervical spine AP and Lateral view. Please let us know the reports. Once the diagnose is made, a treatment plan can be suggested.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
