What Causes Pain In The Throat After Swallowing Chips?

My 3 year old complained of pain when swallowing a tortilla chip that she had not chewed thoroughly. The pain has decreased but she still complains that her throat is sore and it feels like the chip is still stuck in there. Symptoms have persisted for 5 days and now onset of fever vomiting and diarrhea. Perhaps it s viral but none of the other 3 siblings have these symptoms.

Hello,
Thank You for the query at HCM

Her symptoms could be due to viral infection or streptococcal infection (strep throat).
Rapid antigen testing and culture of throat swab can confirm the diagnosis.
Strep throat require treatment with antibiotics.
Please be advised to follow up with a Primary care physician/ pediatrician for further management.
Meanwhile, you can give her Tylenol for pain and fever.

Hope I was able to help you
