What Causes Pain In The Tailbone?

My 98 y/o mom has been complaining of tailbone pain. She is bedridden for the most part, while she can move from side to side, she is mostly on her bottom because she is overweight. Her tailbone pain is due to thick red skin that is crusty like in appearance, is this a fungal infection? how can u differentiate a fungal from a yeast infection? What can be done about this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your mother seem to be related to a fungal infection.

I recommend to use an antifungal cream such as Miconazole cream for local application.

I also recommend to use Fluconazole tablets.

I suggest to wash and dry frequently the area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
