What Causes Pain In The Rib Cage?

I can feel like an extra rib under my left rib cage. Sometimes if I move wrong or my kids push on it wrong it hurts. It also looks strange and uneven. I have digestive issues doctors have been unable to fully diagnose and they labeled me IBS but I am worried this could be linked to it and something they missed?

Hi,

Pain in the rib cage can be due to many causes. The commonest cause is a muscle spasm or inflammation of the front part of the ribs at the costochondral junction area. You can discuss with your doctor and get a chest X-ray or CT chest scan done if needed for detailed testing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Vivek Chail, Radiologist
