Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Family he of rheumatoid arthritis. For about 1 month I have experienced lower back, bilateral hip pain although more on left. Also severe thigh muscle ache. Relieved somewhat with Advil, but returns. I also have 5 cats so lymes desease has crossed my mind. Not sure if I need blood work for rheumatoid panel or X-ray of hips.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Do you have stiffness in the morning when you wake up? Usually, rheumatoid arthritis gives stiffness of the joints early in the morning and it lasts about 30 minutes minimum. You can do some tests like PCR, rheumatoid factor, ANA, etc., for arthritis. If the tests are okay then better do an imaging examination.
What is your profession? Do you lift heavy weights? Where does exactly your pain radiate, and what character is it? What makes it worse or better? Do you have more pain in the morning or at night? When has it started for the first time? Do you have any numbness or tingling sensation? How long does the pain last? Is it constant?
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Emilda Belortaja
