Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grandchild is chronically constipated and screams in pain and crosses her legs together whenever she feels the urge to have a bowel movement. Her feces are pasty or irregularly shaped balls most frequently. We have tried dietary changes and glycerin suppositories, but nothing works consistently. What could be causing this and what can we do to help alleviate this condition?
Hi, sorry to hear about it. It is really hard to see children suffering from constipation and yes, pain, screaming, pulling and crossing legs while passing motion, hard ball like stool, streaks of blood while passing motion are symptoms of constipation. Increase water intake and add lot of fibres in the diet. Encourage to eat lot of vegetables and fruits likes prunes, pears, plums. Give luke warm water for drinking. If dietary change doesn't help, give laxatives at night for 5-7 days.
