What causes pain in the legs, shoulders and upper arms?

I have pain in my knees, legs, groin, shoulders, upper arms and neck off and on all day and it’s getting worse. The shoulder pain has been there for a few months. What could it be? I am 60 years old and have never had this kind of pain before-it’s like it is inside my bones.

Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor Service. I reviewed your query and here is my answer.

If such an old lady have visited to me with such complaints, my first and strong suspicion will be post menopausal osteoporosis. Have you tested your blood calcium and phosphate levels? This is most common in old ages due to hormones imbalance. For this you need to take calcium supplements, vitamin D and pain killers.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi. I am female, 53. I am being treated for a bulge in the disc in my neck. I have had referred pain. However, my shoulder seems to be getting sorer. I have had the heat pack on constantly. It helps when I lay down or am supported. As soon as y arm is free or I try to do anything, the pain around my shoulder area is excruciating. It hurts into the upper part of my arm. My neck and other pain has settled with acupuncture has settled considerably, but this pain is getting worse. This really set off when I went to school camp about 4 weeks ago - I did take part in archery with students which may have set this off.

My upper arm (biceps) ,shoulder muscle(front side mostly) and all the way down to my wrist suddenly out Of nowhere hurt and tighten for about 15 to 20 seconds then stop. It has done this only today about 3 times Every 45 to 60 minutes I guess. Feels like as it would if I had just bench pressed slot of weight or something. I am pretty fit and do get plenty of exercise but haven t done anything strenuous to my arms. Rode my bike today but? It happens to both arms at the same time.
