Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a lot of pain in the front of my legs or shins. I also have some pain in a vein in my left calf. A lot of times I have burning and shooting and throbbing in my legs and feet if I stand on hard surfaces or walk for very long in department stores. I have trouble even taking a short walk down the street without pain. I have lower back problems and presently take physical therapy which helps everything but the pain in my shins and feet. I am not diabetic. I am female and 64 years old. Anita
It seems that you are having multiple problems at the same time regarding your shin pain the most common cause is osteoporosis or tibial splints.
For this start taking calcium and vitamin D supplements and get your DEXA scan done.
As you say you have difficulty in walking for a short distance and having pain in veins I would like to advise you to get a colour doppler done to rule out any venous incompetence.
Till then use compression bandage on the affected limb. Regarding your back pain must get an MRI scan done to rule out any nerve root compression or prolapsed disc.
Till than continue physiotherapy sessions avoid forward bending or weight lifting.
Use a hard bed. Give hot fomentation. Take muscle relaxant twice a day for 7 days. Take Gabapentin plus Nortriptyline in the night for 1 month.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
