What Causes Pain In The Feet?

Whenever I lay down or sit for any length of time, when I stand up both feet hurt badly. Feels like a sharp object is being pushed into my heals. Pain lessens longer I walk around, but returns after sitting or laying down again. If I physically push heals with my hand my whole foot aches.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your description the symptoms are suggestive of something called plantar fasciitis. It’s quite common in middle aged people and respond well to treatment. As a first line management, you can take analgesics like ibuprofen or diclofenac for pain. Avoid weight gain as over weight may worsen the symptoms. Apply hot compresses for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist despite all these, consult an orthopedic and get evaluated. In severe cases steroid injection to the soles may be required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
