What Causes Pain In The Ear While Traveling By Flight?

I will be flying and I have a problem with my eardrums taking off but mosting landing. What can I take to help the pain. I do put plugs in the ears. Someone told me Eltor 120 is something I should take about an hour before taking off and one hour before landing. Is this correct.

This is caused by changes in air pressure during landing since airlplane is quickly coming to ground and there is difference in height. Some people experience it more intensive due to narfrower ear canal. ELtor may since it will open sinuses and Eustachian tube that is connected to inner ear.
