What Causes Pain In The Calf After An Injury?

Yesterday when I got out of bed my left calf hurt badly and I had trouble walking on it. The pain is relieved when I am sitting but again today it continues to hurt and I have difficulty putting weight on it. Recall no injury, and there is no hot spot or noticeable swelling.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From what you have written it might be simple calf muscle spasm most probably due to a bad sleeping position, as you haven't mentioned any trauma or other diseases. Try to reduce the movement associated and get an orthopaedic consultation if the pain didn't reduce.

To conclude:
1) try to immobilize the area by reducing movements and putting weight on legs
2) apply ice packs on the affected area as it can reduce the spasm
3) for the pain you can take simple analgesics like ibuprofen
4) get an orthopedic consultation done

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. ASIF, General & Family Physician
