What Causes Pain In Rib Cage?

Hi,
A couple of weeks ago, all the muscles around my middle went into spasm in the middle of the night and I had to go to emergency. I couldn't inhale without these muscles tightening like a steel band. X-rays of chest and abdomen showed nothing and neither did a CT scan (my digestion had come to a halt, so they were looking for a blockage). I've continued to have pain in the diaphragm, which wraps around to the back, especially on the right side. This a.m. I woke up with stabbing pains in my rib cage on the right side, towards the back, and now there are creaking or grinding sounds when I inhale. Is this just ribs being pulled against each other because of muscle spasms or could it be something else?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi. I can understand your concern.
Possibility of bronchitis is more in your case.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT is needed for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
