What Causes Pain In Lower Right Quadrant Of Abdomen?

I am in severe pain in the lower right quadrant of my torso. It is constant, sharp stabs. I have no fever, no nausea, vomiting or problems with eating. I think it might be an ulcer or a hernia. I have had this pain since Tuesday (6 days) I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow morning. I have to move in just the right angles so as not to get the sharp pain. I am on requip for restless leg syndrome and have had this for over 35 years. I am a white, 73 old female and pretty sedentary in my living. I use a cane all the time. I ve had 4 major operations in 3 years, one being a total hip replacement (left).

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

This type of right lower quadrant (right illiac fossa) pain may be due to spasm, appendicitis, right kidney stones etc but it needs to be evaluated further by clinical examination and various tests to detect the underlying cause.

You should undergo routine blood investigations with x- ray abdomen and ultrasound abdomen first to make a diagnosis.

Treatment will be based on underlying cause otherwise you can symptomatic treatment like antispasmodics with antacids.

Continue your treatment requip for restless leg syndrome as prescribed by your doctor.

Consult surgeon or gastroenterologist for further advise.

Regards,
