What Causes Pain In Hip And Back Region?

I am 45 and have run 5-6 miles/day for last 10 years. 3 months ago, for seemingly no reason, my psoas began hurting and getting tight. I found that I did not have pain with walking or running, but tremendous discomfort and tightness about an hour after any exercise. This pain now is in my glutes, back, and have trouble sleeping due to discomfort (up 4-6x/night) I ve been to numerous chiros, massage therapist, been stretching, been strengthening (according to chiro s instructions). The only relief I have found is the Mobic my Sports Med Dr prescribed, but no real improvement (cannot come off Mobic without returning to the steel girdle feeling and back pain). A new chiro has suggested a full workup with my OBGyn/ ultrasound ovaries. I m confused... is this a muscle, back, or ob/gyn issue?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From description , it seems you might developed muscular or ligamentous strain over back .
Now after 3 months if pain is severe ,I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Meanwhile following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required
• Avoid forward bending.
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
