What Causes Pain Behind The Left Knee?

I am having some pain behind my left knee. It feels stiff behind my knee. Then that turns into a burning feeling throughout my whole knee. No direct injury. I sat on my leg while working and when I got up I could not straighten it. I have since worked out twice with no problems. seems to happen when I transition from sitting to standing.
