Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a full thickness skin graft and partial shaving of the bone on the tip of my thumb about a month ago. I am trying to stretch out my thumb to avoid stiffness, however, when I make a fist and stretch out my thumb I get a sharp shooting pain at the tip of my thumb but the pain quickly dissipates after I have held the position for a few seconds. I am wondering what could be causing this pain?
Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you have got full thickness skin graft and partial shaving of the bone on the tip of your thumb about a month away. Now you are having sharp shooting pain at the tip of thump. It may be duenerve ending on tip of thumb being sensitive because it is now not covered by normal skin .It is covered by artificial skin thickness of which is less than normal ,so it is more sensitive. After sometimes its thickness will increase and sensitivity of nerves also decreases. Your problem will gradually be less with passage of time. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
