What Causes Pain Around The Liver Area Upon Deep Breathing?

my dad is 88 and he just called and said he is having pain, he claims about where his liver is. It hurts when he takes a deep breath. He HAS had neck pain recently and went to PT once and has done a few exercises at home. He says it is not his chest that hurts. Is it imperative he goes to the hospital ER or do you think he can wait till tomorrow, to see how he feels? It started last night, although he was able to be out today, drive, even though it bothered him.

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM
The pain in the right upper abdominal area (area of the liver) that worsens during deep breathing is suggestive of acute cholecystitis, which is infection and inflammation of the gallbladder.
Ultrasound abdomen and blood investigations are required to confirm the diagnosis.
Early initiation of treatment with antibiotics (ciproflocacin+metronidazole) is necessary for best outcomes. So please be advised to follow up with the emergency room.

Hope I was able to help you
Let me know if you need further clarifications
