What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Right Ankle?

Ok, so I was just in the ER last night because I had sudden and painful swelling starting in my right ankle about 8 pm. Thought I maybe bumped it cause it felt bruised. By midnight I could hardly walk and was feeling my left ankle beginning to swell and HURT. I went to ER and by 2am it was so painful even to touch I had to use a wheel chair and I was beginning to tear up at times . The nurse gave me some Motrin and of course by the time I say the dr. About 6 am I was feeling much better and could even limp a little without anyone help me. So they more or less sent me on my way and didn t do anything.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
pain and swelling is common after injury. it's may due to injury to any of the structures that is present in and around ankle. if swelling has not come down it's better to undergo tests to rule out fracture and/ or ligament injury. visit orthopedic surgeon for further management. pain reducing substancs and ice packs are for temporary relief.
