Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Metatarsal Joint?
I have a swollen and mildly painful 4th metatarsal joint. I do have quite a bit of osteoarthritis, but this joint isn t painful like others have been. I have noticed it more while walking barefooted in the house this summer, but became a bit more concerned when I tried Keen sandals that normally fit very well and are now no longer comfortable. Thoughts?
It could be a new involvement of osteoarthritis or it could be gout as gout is known to involve metatarsals but usually of the toe but it can affect any joint . I would like to see the X-ray of the joint and also get a serum uric acid done . you can meanwhile take non steroidal anti inflammatory medicines like Naproxen for the same.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
