hello, my name is Helen. My husband woke up yesterday morning saying he had a lot of pain in his big toe and there is some swelling and hard for him to walk, forget about trying to get a shoe on. I was looking up on the computer and it seems to be the closest to gout. My husband said thats what he feels just what the computer said. my question is can we wait until he can get a shoe on without feeling pain or should we go now. Is advil or tylenol ok to take.
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Yes, it is good to take these and there is no contraindication for it. This may be an unnoticed injury and in this case it should pass in short time. However, if this prolongs then some other causes may be considered such as diabetic inflammation, arthritis or ischemic pain. In this case he should do more extensive work up such as xrays and doppler ultrasound. AT this point, he should wear comfortable shoes, apply cold compresses and rest till pain subside. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
