What Causes Pain And Swelling In Temple Region After An Injury?

I tripped and fell yesterday, and hit my temple on the tire of a four wheeler. My head bounced off and I got back up. It is very painful and swollen right now. No broken skin, no concussion. Just very painful. Hurts to open my mouth, chew, and even talk. Eyesight and balance are fine. The whole side of my head where I hit aches (obviously) is any of this anything to be concerned about?

Hi there,
I am Dr. Deepak, I work in Emergency Department, where I see many patients with injury to their head. As you mentioned you had injured your head yesterday on tire of a four wheeler. Your head bounced off and you got back up. Now that area is painful and swollen.
I feel you had sustained minor injury to your head, I can say that as
1. You didn't had any dizzy feeling.
2. You didn't had vomiting even though you had nausea.
3. You didn't loose consciousness.
4. You are not feeling any numbness or weakness of any one side of your body
5. You are not having any bluish discoloration around your eyes and behind the ear
6. You are not having any trouble with walking.
And the most important thing is you are pretty much okay right now.
If you face any of the above mentioned problem within 24-48 hrs, then you can show to the Doctor, who can examine you.
You also mentioned that you are having problems with opening your mouth, chewing and even talking. I feel you might have injured your jaw bone, where it join the head. I would recommend you to show it to a Doctor, so that he can examine to rule out any fracture.
You can apply some ice pack and take some pain killer while to wait to see the doctor. If the chewing and talking inproves while you are waiting for the doctor, and there is no sound (crack-crack), then you can relax. The swelling and pain will take some time to come down(7-10days).
Thank you
Hope your concern was dealt with and hope you have a speedy recovery.
