What Causes Pain And Swelling Around The Wrist?

I don t remember hitting my hand or anything but all of a sudden it was like I pulled or strained something in the backside of my hand in the vein or tendon area. It hurts to touch the area. I do see a little swelling just above the wrist area. It s been a week now, no improvement.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query about having pain and swelling in wrist area of your hand, it can possibly be due to compression of nerve supplying it or it can also be related to arthritis where pain and inflammation of the joints occur. It would have been easier if you had mentioned your age. I would suggest you to see a physician for a proper diagnosis for which an x-ray can be needed. As of now you can take anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen for pain and swelling.

I hope that the information helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jyoti Pandey
