What Causes Pain And Runny Nose After A Dental Procedure?

I had dental work done this afternoon and am a little concerned. My nose has been running nonstop and the has been pain in my nose ever since the novicane wore off. The pain is almost a feeling you get when your nose is extremely dry and try to breathe through it but my nose is nowhere close to being dry. If it helps the novicane was given in my upper lip to work on my 3 front teeth.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, it looks like there is allergic reaction to the Novocaine and at times when the injection is given too close to nose then such symptoms can occur.
However these symptoms are temporary and will resolve soon.
For now you can take anti allergic medicine like Levocetrizine and do steam inhalations.
If the nose is congested you can use Otrivin nasal drops.
Avoid spicy and irritant foods.
Use a humidifier in your room.
If this doesn't help consult an Emergency room and get evaluated..

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
