What Causes Pain And Muscle Spasms In Shoulder, Wrist, Nausea And Headache?

I work as a dishwasher (part time) in a restaurant that has a mold infestation, presumably Stachybotrys sp., and have begun experiencing, only while at work and for a short time afterward, pain and spasms in my shoulders, pain in my wrists, nausea, light headedness, sharp headaches, sneezing and sniffling, and post nasal drip. Are there tests my physician can perform to test for the presence of aflatoxins or mycotoxins that may or may not be effecting me, should I consult an allergy specialist to confirm if I am having an allergic reaction to the molds?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I could mention some symptoms of the mold allergy :

• Itchy nose, mouth, and lips
• Sneezing
• Itchy, watery eyes
• Runny nose
• Nasal congestion

But even symptoms you mentioned above may be mold allergy symptoms.

Mold can also trigger asthma symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath or chest tightness.

An allergist/immunologist can diagnose whether the mold is responsible for your symptoms.

Skin prick tests give accurate results if you have mold allergies. Your allergist may order other tests if it will be necessary to determine the diagnosis.

However, until you have a visit to a doctor, try to avoid mold because it spreads through the air.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Suzana Zharri, General & Family Physician
