What Causes Pain And Itching In The Jock And Scrotum?

Hello, for some days now, I was suffering from jock itch I think, it slowly started to go from left to right, till it became unbearable.. so today out of anger and constant itching, vigorously rubbed dilute dettol with cotton in the affected areas and let them burn.. the burning became unbearable and continued for 3-4 hours, which was reduced by bathing and applying ice.. the affected area has gone brown/black.. and my scrotum and jocks hurt bad when ever I move.. I am happy considering no more itching, but am worried about any possible infections following that.. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Jock itch is caused by a fungal infection. These are very common infections in the summer when skin sweats and is often moist. The best treatment is an antifungal cream or spray.
Since your skin is now burned you need to watch out for secondary infections. I would still apply a thin layer of an antifungal cream twice a day. If the pain gets severe or if you see redness with pus you need to see a doctor for an antibiotic
