What Causes Pain And Inflammation On The Toe After Walking?

I am female, age 72, and my orthopaedic dr. diagnosed my right knee requiring total replacement soon. He gave me a cortisone shot and I have been managing okay but I know I need it. Last night I went for a nice walk (I am active but not doing the walking I used to do). During the night, my big toe on my right foot started hurting and became very inflamed. Since early morning, I ve been applying ice and also warm water. It s not making any difference. Hurts to walk and occasionally, I get sharp pains in it. What could this be? I do have arthritis thru out my body. No need to answer, I ve been able to get a Dr. appointment

Hello dear
I understand your concern
Your symptoms could be due to soft injury that cause swelling and inflammation.
Other cause could be arthritis, stress fracture.
Examination and xray by orthopedic surgeon will help in the diagnosis.
Meanwhile take following advises:
Tablet zerodol SP three times a day after meal
Tablet rantac
Take rest, and put pillow below leg
Put your leg in war water with added salt.
Avoid exertion cause pain
Go for blood sugar test to rule out diabetes
