What Causes Pain And Clogging Of Ears?
hihi,i have a question concerning ear pain. it has lasted about 2 weeks. i went to a walk in clinic and they rinsed my ear out an prescribed me some drops. it hasn't helped much in the long term. my insurance doesn't kick in until may2. it is really concerning me as my ear is now becoming sensitive to sound as well as feeling clogged. i do not feel that the emergency room would be necessary but am fearing any irreversible damage. any advice?

As per your complain ear ache along with clogged ear and increased sensitivity to sounds are indications of ear infection and clogging is due to fluid accumulation behind the eardrum and also blockage of Eustachian tubes with the fluid leading to clogged feeling.
Yes, it is true that if the infection is not taken care of it can damage the eardrum and can effect your hearing capacity as well as it can also spread to inner ear and cause worsening of the symptoms. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like otoscopy. X-ray can help in diagnosis. You can be advised antibiotic and analgesic ear drops along with oral antibiotics and painkillers, decongestants like Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline sprays.
If it still does not improve then manual drainage of ears along with placement of pressure equalization tubes and correction of the perforated eardrum by tympanoplasty procedure can help.
