Hi, I've had the mirena in for just over 1 yr & up to last month all Ok , just recently after sex with my husband of 14 yrs I've been experiencing pain during & after sex, the last time I've even been bleeding more like spotting & the pain / soreness lasts all day upto 2-3 days at a time ? Please advise :)
First of all, given that you did not have a problem with the Mirena for over a year, I would not necessarily say that this is related to the Mirena IUD. So, you are describing the new onset of pain during and after intercourse with spotting. While this could represent 'displacement' of the IUD, it could also represent other changes to the uterus, such as uterine polyps. Evaluation of the IUD and the uterus could easily be achieved with an ultrasound. Also, anyone with pain with intercourse and bleeding should also be evaluated for infection. This could be anything from a routine infection of the vagina to a more localized infection of the cervix (which is at the top of the vagina). You are describing a common problem and easily dealt with by your OB/GYN. I recommend that you consider an appointment and this answer should help you to develop a framework of thinking about this problem.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
