What Causes Pain Above The Buttocks On The Right Side?

I have pain in the upper part of the right buttock. It is not constant but when it comes it is severe and locks me up and I can t hardly move until it goes away. It started after I resumed normal activities after total right knee joint replacement. Any idea on what my problem might be?

Hi,

The discomfort and pain that you are experiencing can be due to some developing complication after your total right knee joint replacement. However, it is good to know that you have resumed your normal activity. Knee stiffness, nerve damage in the knee, blood clots in the knee or lungs, wearing out of the artificial knee before time, stroke are few of the symptoms of complications after knee replacement surgery.

No worries, but do go for a follow up physical checkup (you may have to get some investigations done) to rule any developing complications. Pain above the buttocks and on the right side is indicative of developing sciatica (sciatic nerve extending from lower back to the legs.)

Get treated at the earliest. Medications and physical therapy are effective.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
