What causes one tonsil to be bigger than other?

I m a 19 year old female and one of my tonsils is bigger than the other. I have a white line down my throat on the larger tonsil side. Its been there for about a year it does not give me any trouble. I have tonsil stones could there be one stuck in my tonsil making it bigger than the other? Or what could this be?

Hi,

Noted that you are a 19 year old female and have one tonsil larger than the other and have tonsillolith that is tonsil stone.
Tonsillolith causing enlargement of one tonsil is rare to know.
The causes can be hyperplasia on one side only and hence must be investigated.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon and get examined well including whether there are lymph nodes on the same area where the tonsil is enlarged.
Get the blood tests done.
FNC of tonsil if can be done can helps.
Ideally a 2 week course of an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory medications should be tried to see the response.
If the enlargement persists then you may need a tonsillectomy and send the tonsils for histopathology to see whether there is any Lymphoma present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant,

For about 6 months off and on my left tonsil has been bothering me. Not the typical sore throat but more a diffuse ache and sore lymph nodes in same side. I didn t localize the pain until today, when I stuck my finger back there and was able to palpate the tonsil and it recreated the pain. It it slightly bigger than the other but only slightly red. At times it does feel that there s something in my throat. Also that after swallowing my throat is not fully open. I have also had some intermittent ear pain and abnormal noises in that ear. It s not strep throat or s cold virus. I m very familiar with them. Also I don t smoke, I m not around smokers, I m 29, and I drink socially. Thank you!

Hey, I recently went to the dentist and they said my left tonsil was bigger than the right one. And I have three 3mm growths in the back of my throat. They do not hurt. My dr. Said it was post nasal drip. While researchin I see symptoms I have but see nothing about it causing growths. Can it be PND

I have been to 3 ENTs and 3 general practitioners because of a pain in my left tonsil. I also had an MRI and no one can give me an explanation as to why I have had a pain in the tonsil for nearly 1 year other than tonsil stones and possible reflux. I have not had any other symptoms -- just a pain (on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst, it would be a 1). I can only describe it as a pain or tightness in the tonsil and I am always worried that someone missed something and there more to the issue than tonsil stones...any thoughts on whether or not I should revisit the issue?

I had really bad tonsillitis over the weekend starting on a friday that included many tonsil stones, fever, chills, irritated throat, swollen lymp nodes on left side of neck. My throat only hurt in one distinct spot on the left side in front of my tonsil on that arched flap of skin, which was/is red and irritated looking. It is now wednesday and I have been taking ammoxicillin since sunday and everything has been healing nicely, but I haven't noticed a significant change in the amount of pain coming from this spot. Is this unusual with tonsillitis? Should I be worried. The spot hurts a tad less than it did this weekend, so, techinically, I guess it's getting a tab bit better, but it still worries me a little...
