What Causes One Tonsil To Be Bigger Than Other?

I m a 19 year old female and one of my tonsils is bigger than the other. I have a white line down my throat on the larger tonsil side. Its been there for about a year it does not give me any trouble. I have tonsil stones could there be one stuck in my tonsil making it bigger than the other? Or what could this be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted that you are a 19 year old female and have one tonsil larger than the other and have tonsillolith that is tonsil stone.
Tonsillolith causing enlargement of one tonsil is rare to know.
The causes can be hyperplasia on one side only and hence must be investigated.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon and get examined well including whether there are lymph nodes on the same area where the tonsil is enlarged.
Get the blood tests done.
FNC of tonsil if can be done can helps.
Ideally a 2 week course of an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory medications should be tried to see the response.
If the enlargement persists then you may need a tonsillectomy and send the tonsils for histopathology to see whether there is any Lymphoma present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant,
