What Causes Oily Distaste In Mouth?

My 90 year old Mother wakes in the night with an oily taste in her mouth and it can keep her awake. She said it makes her feel unwell. She wakes up in he morning with it and it tends to wear off as the day goes on. Her tongue is pink. She is not constipated and she does not have bad breath.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have oily distaste in mouth , which could be due to nasal and sinus disease, upper respiratory infection and head trauma, frequent causes of taste disturbance include oral infections, dental infections, dental procedures and due to involvement of glossopharyngeal nerve and olfactory nerve. you need not to worry about it. You can easily get rid of that by visiting dental surgeon once and cleanliness of oral cavity done. Take supplements rich in iron. Get a complete hemogram and blood. I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon and neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan and MRI to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe anti inflammatory drugs and in some cases surgery is also one of the option. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for sinusitis like problem.
