What Causes Occasional Diarrhea?

I had my ileocecal valve and about 6 inches of my small intestine removed due to twisted bowel from scar tissue. I am on cholestyramine once daily. I still have cramping and lots of gas daily. Also occasional diarrhea. I have been told to avoid dairy products and artificial sweeteners. I have been off of salads and some vegetables. I feeI like I need to be near a bathroom at all times. Do you have any other suggestions I may try. Judy

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Since you have been operated for removal of the terminal ileum including the ileocecal valve, the symptoms of cramping and gases should be investigated. You also have diarrhea in spite of diet restriction and need to stay near bathroom, spoiling all the social life.
I would advise you the following:
Get the stool tests for three consecutive days.
Contrast enhanced CT scan and barium follow through studies may give the reasons.
Also get the blood tests of CBC, thyroid and liver functions.
Once diagnosed get the proper treatment as per the findings so that you get a cure.
Stress and anxiety too can contribute for the symptoms that you have.
Colonoscopy may also be needed.
If all the investigations are normal IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome can be considered and therapeutic trial may be done.
