What Causes Obstruction Post Removal Of The Colon?

I had my colon removed 24 years ago due to ulcerated colitis. I now have a J pouch. Jan. 2016 I started having obstructions. Pretty severe sending me to the ER. I saw my GI he said do nothing get used to it. I saw my medical dr. he said pretty much the same thing. I had obstructions almost every day and was on liquids. I saw a surgeon on Feb. 25th and he did a procedure on the next day to release the adhesion that was closing the intestine. It has been two weeks and I still have problems if I eat anything more than soup, broth, ice cream, pudding, jello, or popscicles. The surgeon says give it time but I m losing weight 20 pounds so far and scared to eat. What do I do ??

Cannot say in your particular case without an examination BUT....in general one would first do a visualization procedure to identify where the problem is. Often simple x rays show which part of the bowel comes before and which after an obstruction. Certainly, an operation is also an examination, but generally studies would be done prior to that. Tumors occur in ulcertive colitis. In the colon. No colon, no colon tumor. Scar tissue can occur after surgery. This gets to be tricky since if you do more surgery, more scar tissue will form. Small amounts with soluble fiber are helpful. Things that increase the flow through the colon helpful (miralax, etc). Things that lower colonic movement (narcoticss) are not helpful.
