What Causes Numbness In The Tongue?

I am having numbness of the tongue which is getting increasingly worse for the past year. The tongue is sometimes a bright red and I get frequent sores on tip and sides of the tongue, usually at the same site each time. I have severe dry mouth for which I have been taking Pilocarpine qid x 3months and Biotene. I use chlorahexadine mouth wash bid and also use 0.1 percent triamcinolone on the sores. This keeps the sores under control but the numbness is now making it difficult to eat. The tongue gets in the way. What could be causing the numbness? I know it sounds complex, but cannot get answers from my primary or my rheumatologist. Have autoimmune conditions. This seems to be the answer for everything but what could be the underlying cause. Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As you are having a severe dry mouth, it is a common cause for numb feeling of the tongue, however if the numbness is persistent you can once get an MRI scan done to check for any nerve or neurological causes..

However as per your other symptoms that you are facing it is most probably due to dry mouth..

As you are already taking medication for dry mouth continue the same and along with it start taking Vitamin B complex and zinc supplements and also suck ice pops to reduce inflammation..
You should also chew sugarfree chewing gums..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
