What causes numbness in the right foot along with tight sensation in the calf?

If I m standing upright, and try to lift my right foot from the heel, the foot won t cooperate. If I m sitting and try to raise my foot, I can lift it up about 50% of the way. Feels like dead weight and as if my foot is just about to fall asleep. Tightness in calf muscle close to the shin.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

-Apply an ice pack in 20-minute intervals may also help.
-take OTC medications: Calf pain can also be soothed from taking common pain relievers such as ibuprofen or naproxen.
-Light stretching can help ease calf pain. After the symptoms subside slightly, you should stretch your calf muscles.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I am 52 years old, 67 , 180 lbs. I run about 18 miles/week on a tmill and use an elliptical when not running, 2 or 3 times/week. I am experiencing occasional numbness in my right foot along with tightness/pain in the right calf. Stretching has not helped nor has not stretching. I wear arch support in all my shoes and have for years and I vary my shoes when exercising and at work.

Hi, whenever I sit on HARD chair for more than 10 minutes, my left calf becomes numb and tight. When this happens, I will walk around and it becomes better. If I have sat down on hard chair for too long and the numbness is bad, I will have to lie flat on my back on a SOFT bed for hours, then the numbness goes away. But this numbness and tightness on calf doesn t happen if I sit on soft sofa or lie on soft bed even for hours. Other parts of the leg and my back are ok. No pain. May I know what s wrong?

Good afternoon, I ve been experiencing a lot of calf tightness and foot numbness when I run lately. I ve tried different types of shoes, different lacing methods, running on treadmills and outdoors, but it all seems to come back to my calves being tight when I run and it causes my feet to fall asleep. I m training for a half marathon for April and need to figure out a solution!
