I have been experiencing numbness in both of my hands since Saturday. All the way to my finger tips. It s almost the feeling of them being completely asleep and won t wake up. It concerns my since I am on blood pressure medication since 1994 and I am also a fibromyalgia sufferer and was in a bad car accident in 1986. I have been experiencing some strange cracking sounds in my neck when I move it. I do type a lot on a computer and was hoping maybe the extreme cold weather we have been having might be causing this complete numbness in both hands. They are not cold though. Any ideas?
You told about car accident and from then you are experiencing clicking sound on neck movements. It is possible that cervical injury has gone unrecognized at that time.
There is strong possibility that nerve compression at cervical level is causing tingling and numbness in hands, go for cervical spine MRI. After that, consult the neurosurgeon.
At initial stages conservative management can be tried to reduce tingling and other motor nervous problems. It includes:
- Wearing cervical collar while working and traveling - Using soft and thin pillows - Applying hot compressions
In advance stage, you may require decompression or disc removal and fixation of vertebrae depending upon the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
