What Causes Numbness In Legs?

I have numbness in my legs late efternoon and evenings. I am a 68-year-old male. No tingling, no pain, just uncomfortable numbness in both legs. Usually after I have been sitting a while in front of TV. It also keeps me from falling asleep at night. What is it due to?

Thank you for asking Healthcare majic.
My name is Dr Ehsan Ullah &
I have gone through your query.

you have mentioned that you feel numberness which
causes
discomfort
and
keeps you from falling asleep at night

The numbness has several causes

which can be categorized into

A) Positional

B) Neurological

C) Vascular

D) Electrolytes imbalances

i am gonna tell briefly about all these in step wise pattern

A) Sitting or standing in a position for long periods of time can cause numbness

B) Nerve supply if affected by the

-Pressure effects e.g herniated disk
-Injury to the nerve
-Lesion causing pressure
-Alchohal, tobacco , Lead

all these can lead to
numbness

C) Vascular

if the blood supply to a part of the body is interrupted such as vessel inflammation (vasculitis) or Hardening of the arteries, which occurs when fat, cholesterol, and other substances build up in the walls of arteries (atherosclerosis)

D) Imbalance of certain electrolytes such as Sodium , Potassium & Calcium

as well as Deficiency or lack of Vit B.12

can lead to numbness

there are several other Causes

but

you should look first for these elements

Modify your standing or sitting position instead of long term sitting in a single position

you can start Multivitamins available over the counter containing Vit B.12

if the condition still don't improve then you will have to visit your GP/ Physician for further work up

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
