What Causes Numbness In Hand And Fingers Post Rotator Cuff Surgery?

Earlier today I had rotator cuff micro surgery. To prepare for the surgery I had a nerve block. I was released from the hospital at approximately 12 pm and it is now 12:15 am. Since the surgery my forearm, hand and fingers are numb. I also have very limited movement in my fingers. I can barely close my fingers into a fist but cannot open them. Also I cannot fully urinate. I get the feeling to urinate about every twenty minutes but when I try to relieve myself I find that I can only relieve my self (weakly) for a second or two and sporadically after, never really ever losing the feeling that I have to still urinate. So my question is, Is this normal? I will add that I have high blood pressure (for which I take medication (Losartin Hydrochloriazide 50mg) daily and also have degenerative disc disease. I had the same procedure done to my right shoulder approximately 4 years ago with none of these symptoms that I am experiencing now. Thank you in advance for your input.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have numbness in hand and fingers post rotator cuff surgery . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like peripheral nerve compression , diabetic nerve damage , multiple sclerosis , neuralgias , peripheral neuropathy and guillain-Barre syndrome . The symptoms can also occur as post surgery complication , so consult your surgeon. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray , nerve conduction velocity tests , electromyography or CT scan and rule out conditions like cervical spondolysis . Doctor may also take history and recommend physical therapy and stretching exercises .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
