What Causes Numbness In Feet And Lower Leg?

Hi, about two weeks ago I rolled my ankle playing sport, and felt a snapping sensation when it occurred. It was quite painful but I could still put pressure on it and walk. It swelled a lot so I just iced it and elevated it and thought it d be fine. The swelling went away after a day or two, however the ankle and top of my foot felt numb. It s continued like this and now I find it hard, if not nearly impossible to point my toes up on that foot, particularly my big toe doesn t seem to move at all. The numbness is still there and I feel the same numbness up the right side of my lower leg. It doesn t seem to be recovering so what would you recommend I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have numbness in feet and lower leg after inury. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like soft tissue injury , hematoma , nerve injury or compression . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI along with nerve conduction test . Doctor may prescribe anti inflammatory along with nerve supplement and recommend physical therapy . Doctor may also recommend surgery in severe nerve damage . For now keep your leg elevated while sleeping and applt warm compresses several times a day .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
