General & Family Physician 's  Response
Numbness in arm is often caused by peripheral nerve damage. There are many causes of peripheral nerve damage such as diabetes, chronic renal failure, leprosy, vasculitis, shingles and hypothyroidism etc. Cause needs to be identified.
Advice
1.     Give rest to your arm
2.     Methylcobalamin 500 mcg once daily per oral for 3 months
3.     Avoid strenuous acitivity
4.     Do not put any pressure on arm whilst sleeping. Pressure on arm during sleep causes compression of nerves leading to nerve damage
5.     Investigations – blood sugar (F & PP), serum creatinine
Thanks
