What Causes Numbness And Twitching Sensation On The Lips?

Hello Dr. Rynne, my mother who is 68 is complaining of numb lips and says shes been having severe twitching going on. She is disabled with chronic back pain and osteoperosis. I typed in her symptoms but too much comes up to try and single something out. My fear is she may have had or could soon have a stroke

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Thank you for reaching out to Health Care Magic.

Some of the symptoms you have mentioned may be seen in stroke. These are seen when there is a deficiency of blood supply to the brain or to some part of the body.

This can cause the nerves to die or not function properly. This improper function may cause some tingling, twitching, and related issues.

Seeing a doctor and getting the following tests done would be a good idea -
Blood lipid levels
EEG
MRI of the brain
A neurologic deficit exam
and general health check up.

This would help to get to the cause and the doctor would then suggest the right treatment.

I hope this helps. Please reach out to me if you have any other questions.
