What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Right Hand?
I am having numbness and tingling in my right hand starting in my thumb and running up into my shoulder and lower face. It radiates upwards and then feels like it is tightening up and it comes on suddenly and then releases. Almost like a contraction during labor. I am a 48 year old female.
Tingling and other abnormal sensations are usually related to abnormal function of the nerves. This is called neuropathy.
Neuropathy can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes such as : (1) diabetes (2) trauma to the nerves (3)liver or kidney disease (4)side effect of medication (5)thyroid disease (6)low levels of vitamin b12 or folate (7)infection such as shingles (8)abnormal levels of vitamin b6 (9)in some cases, the cause is not found
If it continues or worsens, then you should see your doctor for an assessment and treatment. To find the cause imaging may be needed along with blood tests
There are medications that can help with this type of discomfort.
I hope this helps
