What causes numbness and tingling sensation in the hands and fingers when diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome?

hi, I am 50, female. Last August, my right hand fingers became numb and tingling in the morning. In two-three weeks, it became that both hands had same symptoms. I went to a neurologist and had a nerve conduction test, I was told that I have carpal tunnel symptom on both hands. Even I insists that I have neck and shoulders problems since I am in IT field for over 20 years, but the dr. said it was different problems and didn t do further nerve conduction tests. So I had a surgery on my right hand. Three weeks after the surgery, the numbness went away on my right hand. But about meantime, I had extreme shoulders pain and stiffness of my forearms and both hands fingers. Till now I still have frozen shoulders and stiffness of my wrists and fingers. Especially in the morning. The symptoms are better in the evenings. I have blood test of RA, it is negative. And MRI on my neck and Xray on both arms didn t find anything major. Now the numbness on my left hand has almost gone away. So carpal tunnel is certainly a misdiagnosis. Nobody can tell me what I got and what caused this? Do you have any ideas? Do you have advices what should I do next? Thanks, XXXX

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to peripheral neuropathy. For that you may require MRI neck and nerve conduction studies, B12 levels after neurologist consultation. You may require Tablet pregabalin and multivitamin after consultation. Continue physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
