What Causes Numbness And Soreness On The Tongue And Lips?

My tongue and lips are very numb but sore at the same time. I also have red gums in part of my mouth. This happened once before after taking 3 Leviquen? I finished a course of Macrobid last week and this started while on Macrobid. I have interstitial cystitis and have had a recent flair up. Any tips?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that numbness and soreness of tongue and lips along with redness of gums that has occurred after taking levaquin [levofloxacin] and Macrobid [nitrofurantoin]and both of these are antibiotics seems to be due to allergic reaction to the antibiotics..

I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can advise you blood tests to get checked for antibiotics that your body is compatible with and that will not cause any allergic reaction so that you can be advised you antibiotics among the compatible ones to avoid discomfort in future..

As of now you need not to worry as the symptoms of numbness and soreness of tongue and lips will subside gradually as the effect of antibiotic will wean off from body..

For soreness you can gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine and also do cool water rinses and suck ice..
Avoid spicy foods and drink plenty of water..
