I have been diagnosed with failed laminectomy syndrome and currently have a nuerostimulator that was implanted in May of last year. It has been off for a year now. It has been a mess since it s inception. Currently, my sciatica symptoms have been getting worse and have mioved to the left side. I m also experiencing numbers and shooting pain from the upper back down my right arm stopping in one of the three middle fingers. As of two to three weeks ago I have needle and pins/numbness in the rib cage. I am Past concerned and now scared.

Hello,

As the neurostimulator is inserted please focus on strengthening the muscle groups now on. Because neurostimulator may have been not into any defect if any is there than having a word with the surgeon is advised. And maybe a removal can be seen.

In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most cases seen with disc injury are hardly advised for Surgery and with physiotherapy, they have recovered well. Only a few came post surgery and they also do well with physiotherapy. Never a neurostimulator is implanted. It may be a surgeons decision based on the clinical presentation of the pain to use the neurostimulator.

I will advise you to try out exercises and see if you get better. Using the McKenzie maneuver will definitely help reduce the symptoms of radiating pain but without strengthening the muscles of the spine it will not allow pain to subside.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
