What Causes Numb/dull Ache/swelling In Jaw, Ear Ache, Fatigue, Night Sweats?

The past 4 weeks I have been experiencing a numb dull ache in the jaw. I had 3 Abscessed teeth and they have all been removed now. My face has looked very different. It has been puffy and swollen. I used to have a oval face shape with a prominent chin but lately it looks square/asymmetrical shape. I hate it! One doctor said it was tmj the other said it is a virus then another said its sleep apnea and tmj. I m really confused. My syptoms are jaw pain, jaw swelling, ear ache, fatigue and when I wake up from a 9 hour sleep I feel so tired and I have night sweats. I m aware I need braces for my overjet but why is my face changing?!!?! (I m 13)

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of numb/dull ache/swelling in jaw, ear ache, fatigue, night sweats which can occur due to accumulation of ear fluid, ear infection to more serious condition like acoustic neuroma. The symptoms can also occur due to dental problem like bruxism or stress and anxiety. Night sweats can also occur due to hormonal changes .

If your symptoms are getting frequent then you should consult ENT specialist and start treatment after prescription. Doctor may order certain test like audiometery , CT scan ,MRI , low and high pitched ringing to rule out conditions like hearing loss , exposure to loud noises , earwax build-up , middle ear infection.

Doctor may treat it according to the diagnosis , may prescribe medicine antibiotics. Doctor may prescribe drug like eperisone , muscle relaxant and sedatives. Maintain hygiene and avoid pricking it with sharp object. Doctor may also refer you to dentist for condition like bruxism , who may give night guard and recommend mind relaxing exercises .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
