What Causes Nose Bleeding During Sleep?

My son is 21 he gets random nose bleeds mostly at night while he sleeps. He grew up taking flintstones vitamins daily and as a adult he is not a daily vitamin taker he has taken iron pills from time to time, thinking with all the blood lose it is probally a good ideal. When he doesn t take the iron it seems to make his nose bleeds more common. Is there a relationship between the two? He has given blood many times in his life, thru high school, with no problems from it, he has never been found to be anemic. ????

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The deficiency in iron can be related to anemia.
Nosebleeds usually occur due to burst or broken blood vessels in the nose.
It can also be related to anemia.
I suggest to do a complete blood count for further evaluation.
If the diagnosis of anemia is confirmed, I suggest to take iron supplements to treat the iron deficiency.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
