What Causes No Labor Pains By The End Of Third Trimester?

Hi, I am 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant and this is my first baby. My due date is 30th March. I haven t had any false pains or labor pain until now. Should I be concerned? Do you have any advise for me?Is there anything I should watch out to ensure the baby is doing well inside ?

Hello,

The pregnancy is supposed to be of 280 days. Of course, the baby is fully matured at 37 weeks, though continuation up to 40 weeks gives a better chance of survival and quality life to the baby. The labor may not start exactly at 40 weeks, it may start a week earlier or later. Delivery up to 41 weeks is acceptable and does not carry any risks. However, after 41 weeks, a continuation of the pregnancy not advised.

To know that your baby is doing well inside, your obstetrician is following you regularly; however, from your side, you should count the fetal movements. Ten movements for twelve hours is a sign of a healthy baby. Even if you feel the movements are becoming low or slow, please report to the obstetrician. Otherwise, at this stage, there is no issue to worry you. Just be patient and keep a close watch on the baby kicks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nishikant Shrotri
