What causes nipple soreness and tenderness with Mirena?

What causes nipple soreness and tenderness with Mirena? I have had mirena for almost 3 years and just over the past few days I have been experiencing sever pain with anything touching my nipples. I cant even walk down stairs normally without them hurting. My breasts have been a little more sensitive to the touch over the past couple month. I dont believe that I am pregnant but I am not sure what is causing them pain.

OBGYN 's  Response

Nipple soreness and tenderness is a normal hormonal change seen due to Mirena. Usually, the pain settles in a few weeks. In case the pain persists then do get it examined.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
